And here’s the reality – disabled women experience abuse about twice as much as non-disabled women. Women’s Aid has published the following two posters to raise awareness:
Getting away from abuse is often harder for disabled women because the abuser often controls access to help and support.
According to a report from the charity, “the barriers facing disabled women who try to escape from abuse are often almost insuperable.”
